Just imagine what a story in USA Today will do to our cause. It is a national news paper.

There is a cry going around the country regarding the lack of American students opting to enroll for advanced degrees in the field of math and science.
At first I was cynical about this news and was quick to dismiss it as elitist and corporate propoganda directed purely to hire international workers at lower wages. But to my disappointment the facts are staring me right in the face in this regard.
I am currently employed as a professor in the electrical engineering dept. of a accredited university and I am sad to see American students no longer aspiring to get advanced degrees in science and math oriented fields.They enter the workforce after getting a BS and after working only for a couple of years change their career track either to sales/management/marketing.
This has resulted in a huge vacumn in the research programs of most universities which is being filled by international students. Most of these international students complete their advanced degree with the help of scholarships and financial aid offered by the university.
This aid is available for American students on a priority basis in most institutions around the country but there are simply not enough American students up for it. Also due to visa restrictions these very students are not able to get jobs in the US quickly and as a result leave our system with precious knowledge to create wealth some place else in the world.
I understand that we are losing jobs due to outsourcing and offshoring, but that can't be avoided in a globalized economy. On the other hand there are enough jobs being created for advanced degree holders in science and math oriented fields like engineering and human sciences in the US economy.
The most disturbing aspect in this discussion is the scientific accompalishments by America put forward by many people as examples to show that the American educational sysems is hale and hearty. Many people are still harping on the man on the moon issue even after 30 plus years. They should realized that this is a thing of the past and we cannot rest on our laurels.
Legal high skilled immigration should be encouraged as it is by other nations like Canada and UK. We should not lose this fight for global talent or else we will not be able to recover from this loss for a long time.

....... But its better not to apply for any government aid if possible. There are many people who have applied for unemployement. It would be interesting to find out if they had issues during the 485 approval
1. Unemployment benifit is not a goverment aid. Its a insurance which is deducted from every paycheck.
2. Goverment aid has increased the insurance from almost 6 months to almost one year. However we are not qualified for the goverment aid. Unemployment benifit people have given be 28 weeks instead of 54 weeks (in CA). One of my friend in Mass (boston) got 30 weeks instead of 59 weeks. If a labor is applied in EB3 category and later 140 is applied under eb2(bs+5 year experince and salary range). Will there be any complications after invoking AC21?

There should be some basis for their judgement right? they just cannot make arbitrary decisions right? The thing is I am not sure what the procedure is when there are issues with the EAD. I am apprehensive to return my EAD for USCIS to make the correction as it expires in 3 weeks
my friend even after knowing about uscis as much as you do now you still think they go by judgement? there is no "issue" with your ead hence you cannot do anything about it. nowhere does it say you are guaranteed 2 yr ead.

Friends Need Advise Please!
My 485 packet reached NSC on July 2 with an approved 140 from TSC and no CC or receipts yet. My 140 has LUD of 08/12. God only knows where my 485 packet is lying. I applied for my 1st H1 extension at VSC which has a receipt date of July 12. I am planning to upgrade my H1B application to premium because my drivers license is expiring on Sep 30.

When there is a merger, there are no issues. I am presuming that when there are spin offs, there are no issues. Since you are working for atleast one of the original partners, you may show that it is a spin-off or a smaller firm out of the bigger firm or something like that. I am no attorney.
Talk to a good one. If you are being offered atleast the wage that is described on your apps and your position has not changed, then maybe there are no issues.

A wife of one of my colleagues got her green card through marriage. They have now been married for over eight years and she simply visits at least once a year and on at least three occasions has only visited for a weekend.
This gives you a good idea how little time you have to be here without losing your permanent residency.
I also know of a research fellow who I used to work with. Has had his green card for almost twenty years and in that entire time has only visited for one conference each year and then for at most five days.
If you want to progress to become a citizen this sort of arrangement will not work obviously but if you simply want to retain your green card it would appear to be remarkably easy.

he can get a 3 yr extension no matter what because I am assuming that he will go through PERM and have his I140 approved through the new company in a year or so.
the only benefit of the old I140 is to port the Priority Date.
Could you elaborate ? Did you mean I'll eventually get a 3 year extension after I run out of 6 year term (assuming the new company files perm and the retrogression is still there then..) OR did you mean I can get 3 years right now ?

I applied for AP for primary and secondary applicants on 09/17 at TSC (RD 09/24). Online update showed that AP for Primary applicant has been approved, but the secondary still shows under review. Today I received approved AP for the Primary applicant in mail, but nothing for secondary applicant yet. Why TSC is not approving both the APs at the same time? Last time, I got the both at the same time. Any idea or guidance please.....

Yes, same thing happened to me also. My nephew who applied got OCI but when I applied for my daughter the application was rejected and sent back. I then got PIO.
Per the rules to get OCI at least 1 of the parents nationality has to be non Indian. The logic is that if both parents are Indians even if kid is born in US and travels on US passport as kid they have until the age of 18 to choose.

We have our own agenda as they have theirs, But We can ask them to
correct information which is not correct. Otherwise we will create a parallel
graph and point their mistakes and they are free to correct ours.
If someone looks up on net, he/she should see correct information, If
someone searches numberUSA it should also see our site with correct graphs.
We should never fudge number to prove our point, Because we are real people with real issues, which affects our lives in real way ... not idealogues .. where ideaology is above everything(even nonrefutable hard facts or humanity).
I request people on this forum to be careful what they write, We should only
question the incorrectness of the statment without becoming personal , dis-respectful or vengeful, because our fight is born from need not from hatred.

The guy had mentioned to me that EB3 ppl promote chain migration and some get upto 80 (Yes 80) family members here. I tried arguing that it is TOTALLY impossible to bring more than five (i mean common u, ur wife and 3 kids = 5). You cant get ur parents etc., until you are a Citizen, but he wud not listen.
These guys are out to prove that immigration is a bad thing, and they will do their damndest to prove that point. They will not skew the facts, but they will present it in such a way that it looks a LOT worse than it actually is.
